In the months of January and February, Seminars in Usable Design will be sponsoring the following
workshops:
- Developing a Single-Sourcing Strategy
- Managing Your Documentation Projects
- Downsizing Your Documentation: Online and Off
Developing a Single-Sourcing Strategy
Taught by JoAnn Hackos
January 9-10, 2001, Champaign, IL
February 1-2, 2001, Waltham, MA
In this seminar, we'll examine the issues involved in creating document databases and structured
information. We'll discuss the impact of single sourcing on department organization, project
management, training, writing style, document control, editing, and translation. We'll review some of
the tools available and look at both their strengths and their shortcomings.
Managing Your Documentation Projects
Taught by Bill Hackos
January 23-24, 2001, Germantown, MD
If you can keep your projects under control in the midst of chaos, everyone will think you're a
miracle worker. If you can bring a semblance of order into the chaos, you'll at least be a hero. This
seminar gives you the tools to succeed.
Organizations benefit when projects get done on time and on budget, but everyone benefits when the
same projects get done well. This seminar gives your project managers the insight they need to know
what to do and when to do it.
Downsizing Your Documentation: Online and Off
Taught by Henry Korman
February 26-27, 2001, Jacksonville, FL
You've heard about minimalist documentation. Is it appropriate for your situation? How do you produce
it? Shrinking online and printed documentation can lower costs while increasing user satisfaction. In
this workshop, you will learn how to design lean documentation and scale down exiting documentation
to increase usability without compromising completeness. You may reduce document sizes by 50 to 75
percent.
