Dr. JoAnn Hackos, CIDM Director, delivered the Content Management keynote
address at the tekom conference in Wiesbaden, Germany, on November 20, 2003. Tekom is the
German equivalent of the Society for Technical Communication (STC). Although most of the
presentations are in German for a largely German-speaking audience, this year's conference
had a sprinkling of presentations in English. At 1200, the 2003 attendance set a conference
record. Attendees represented a wide range of industries, including software development; machine,
equipment, and plant engineering; vehicle construction; military technology; and the
electronics and electrical industry. Special sections of the conference centered on military-
and automobile-related information development.
The striking exhibit area, with more than 50 vendors, represented international
as well as German-centric companies, with translation and content management vendors well
represented. JoAnn and Bill Hackos were favorably impressed by the robust nature of the tools
development effort in Europe.
