Definition of Done for Documentation Teams
Kathy Madison, Comtech Services
There are a few definitions of done: past participle of do; completed; cooked sufficiently; worn out; doomed to failure, defeat, or death and even used up. The October CIDM managers roundtable discussion focused on the challenges and best practices associated with the definition of done as it relates to documentation and how it effects team productivity and content quality. Only a small group of managers participated in the session, but they represented documentation teams who were developing content in both agile and non-agile environments.

Becoming an Influencer: How to Build a Business Case
Lisa Pietrangeli, 36Software
YOU’VE GOT SKILLS. Mad skills. That’s why you have a job and a career and are respected in your field. You know what to write and which buttons to push and how to meet deadlines. As a technical communicator, you excel at making the complex simple and at adapting to new methods and tools. You seek them. You understand them. But are you successful in implementing them? Are you able to sell your ideas to your company? Do you know how to get the funding and headcount to make change happen?

A service bill of materials (SBOM) is a list of all the serviceable parts needed to maintain an asset while it’s in operation. As the name implies, it’s applicable to individuals concerned with servicing or using a product, whether they be end-users, mechanics, technicians, dealers, or the like.

Our New Tool for Your Organization—An Information Modeling Aid
Use the DITA Information Modeling Deck to plan your DITA implementation and create your DITA information model. The DITA Deck describes the technical content subset of DITA elements, including the six primary topic types, map and bookmap, common block and inline elements, and metadata elements. Each card contains best practice guidelines to help you choose which elements you need, and the content models to help you further define the element structure most appropriate to your content. Use your sorted and annotated cards as a specification for any necessary constraints development, as well as a quick reference to your information model. https://comtech-serv.com/product/dita-deck/
