The landscape of information development is changing, making information categorization as important as content. If a user cannot find the information, it will not matter how accurate or well-written that information is. The role of the information architect evolved from the need to ensure that information is properly categorized and ultimately retrievable by users. Unfortunately, tools have not been readily available to assist information architects in creating useful categories of information.

In his article, Software for Information Architects, Peter Morville categorizes the kinds of tools that are becoming available and provides examples of those tools.
