Staging the Investment in Information Development

At this year’s (September 2012) Best Practices conference, Paul Perotta and Ben Jackson introduced us to their strategy for negotiating with senior management. They stressed the contribution that information makes to product success, especially with customers who own one product and might be encouraged to purchase additional products. If these customers are successful because they have the information they need to work effectively and answer questions, they are much more likely to remain loyal to a company’s product portfolio than if they are annoyed and feel unsupported.

The 2008 CIDM Best Practices conference—held in Santa Fe, New Mexico—was magical. Maybe it was the locale. Maybe it was the company of my fellow DITA enthusiasts. Maybe it was that the conference provided me with the information I needed, just when I needed it. In a haze of euphoric DITA bliss, I went down to breakfast that last morning, excited to explore new ideas and connect with more DITA supporters.

2012 CIDM Rare Bird Award

The 2012 CIDM Rare Bird Award was won by Freescale Semiconductor’s Information Development Ecosystem Advantage (IDEA) initiative submitted by Bob Beims. Michael Tsurikov of Freescale accepted the award at the CIDM Best Practices Conference banquet on September 11, 2012 in Monterey, California.
